Tucker Carioca

Postby Jon VH » Wed Jul 18, 2001 10:32 pm

I understand Tucker was working on producing a sports car called the "Carioca" just before he died (in Brazil I think). Does any one know where any pictures/drawings might be found of the proposed car? Did Alex T. do the design work again?

Very interested.
Yes this car was being designed in Brazil and it was going to be built
there too. Sadly fate stepped in, and that was the end of it..
I am sure some of the Tucker buffs will help you out with more information.
Tucker Carioca images

Postby DV » Tue May 14, 2002 10:50 pm

These are some 3D images of the Tucker Carioca I did for a local car magazine, 4 Rodas. Of course, they are not meant to be accurate, for I had to use a lot of artistic license to fill in the gaps. Good dreaming, though.
Hello Darcy,

I am a member of TACA and just saw the article in the December issue of Tucker Topics. What a beautiful rendition of the Carioca you've done! I was so impressed that I had to try and find these images in color. Thank you very much for putting the three scans of the Carioca up to view. These pictures are breath taking. I hope you don't mind but I've downloaded these so I can view them again & again. Great job!

Thank you Darcy for sharing your "artistic" rendition of Preston's new car. It is a very nice looking design.
Tucker Carioca images

I'm very glad you enjoyed those images so much. I posted wallpaper links at my website, www.darcyvieira.com. It's in Portuguese, but just click on the eye icon at the left upper corner, and then on the Carioca thumbnail. Choose one of the Carioca images. The wallpaper is called "papel de parede" in Portuguese, and it's up to 1600x1200.

Carioca

It could be bought assembled or as a kit. Mary Lee Tucker (Preatons daughter) told me that it would come with a special universal tool that would take care of all the assembly.
There was to be several models in the Carioca line-a Hot Rod, a Taxi Sedan and a little utility Truck.

Carioca

The only early renderings I have seen are from vintage magazines and Automobile Quarterly. The work that Darcy did with just these simple drawings looks good enough to drive off in!

PS - you have seen Darcy's work before as he has done great stuff for Chevy, Jaguar, Bank of Boston, Nestle and tons of magazines worldwide.
ALL Tucker blueprints are very very rare and highly collectable. You can expect to pay a good amount for copies if you can locate them. I can tell you that we DO NOT have a complete set in the Tucker Historical Collection and Library - the national repository of Tucker archives established by TACA.
Tucker Carioca

Postby Kenton Tucker » Sun Jan 18, 2004 7:15 am

The Carioca was a group of 4 vehicles that were planned on being made in South America. There was a 4-wheel drive (jeep type), Utility truck, Sedan and a sports car. We have the original drawings of these machines. They where supposed to be a reasonably priced type of vehicles to be built by my family. I have no way of posting any pictures on this site, but maybe at the next convention I could bring them by and show them.

Pictures of 4 vehicles for Brazil mentioned by Kenton Tucker

Postby xixa » Sun Feb 05, 2006 10:22 am

Since my visit to the museum in Caçapava, SP, Brazil where the 51st Tucker was located, I have been quite interested in all Tucker things. After learning about the Carioca project, I went after more information related to his new attempt. Somewhere I read that Preston Tucker developed a kind of relationship with the then President of Brazil, Juscelino Kubitschek, who was the main facilitator of the creation of the Brazilian automotive industry. I would be very interested in learning what took Preston to consider Brazil. Was he contacted by someone in Brazil or was his own initiative? What happened during the time he lived in BR? Is it true that the car in the Lee Museum in Caçapava was Preston's own car? I would also love to see the pictures of the 4 models of Carioca mentioned by Mr. Kenton Tucker. Thank you! schiesser@gmail.com
